Around the Edges of Oddness

Dear Friends of Bluebird Fairies,

Oh, it’s been a hard week in Vermont. I feel the best thing to do today is to share another poem by Mary Pratt. It’s inspired by this fairy:

Beneath the words "Fairy of Around the Edges of Oddness" stands a fairy with outstretches arms. Speech bubbles with the words "Aha" "Live it" and "go".

HEDGES ARE EDGES

Come, dance around the edge of Odd —

the only place you can find god

(or gods) or elves or unicorns.

Try dancing on these gloomy morns

when all the world is grim and hot

and all we long to do seems not

so possible.

Come, find the magic beneath the trees

where birds sing carols with the bees,

and fairies twine flowers through the hedges

and do odd dances around the edges.

Magic of Summer is Here!

Dear Bluebird Friends,

In the Northern Hemisphere it has become Summer.

I hope you are easing into it with patience for your process.

All I have read, points towards an exciting time in which we shed what no longer serves us and step into that which is our destiny.

On the first day of summer, I drew this fairy to support us in those endeavors:

Above a fairy wearing a purple dress and holding purple grapes are the words "Summer Fairy Helping Us bring our dreams to fruition."

Oh, let the dreams roll in. Spend time feeding the ones that feel right and then, sit back and allow them to grow.

Here’s a dream I had germinating for several years; officiating a wedding.

Having had Bluebird Fairies introduce me to my husband who then made me a fairy booth through which I have had so many wonderful conversations with people. I don’t know, I just felt the urge. So, when Anais and Paul, out of the blue, asked me to officiate their wedding, it felt so good. Congratulations you two!!!

I loved the whole process of the wedding ceremony creation, especially since it was easy to call on the fairies for guidance. Have you ever seen a Fairy Card Reading in a wedding before?

So, that’s an example of the fruition part.

Now, let’s get back to the knowing and the growing of the dreams because this Summer Fairy is here to support you TRYing anything.

Onward and upward with love,

Emily and the Fairies.

“…As the streaming light of purposeful joy replenishes our hearts, may we allow the world magic of this time and space to restore our knowing that today is still fertile with possibility to do good work and to rejoice.”

Fairies in the Night and a Fairy for YOU!

Dear Friends of Bluebird Fairies,

Fairies shelter behind the disco ball

hung in the portal to the kingdom of odd.

After sunset, they emerge lickety-split,

and all night they dance through the city,

their magenta wings flashing splendid

in the lights of streets, and traffic and stars.

This poem was written by my friend Mary Pratt. Today, it inspired the drawing of this fairy:

Beneath the words 'Fairy of the fairies flying about in the night' is a fairy with a brown dress and red heart, arms outstretched in a star lit night of purple and dark blue. Two speech bubbles contain the words "Oh we do this with delight."

Yesterday, I was interviewed about my work with Bluebird Fairies. One of the questions was “How has my life changed as a result of creating this business 9 years ago?” I enjoyed allowing the answer to flow into my mind. First, I thought of all of the people who have come into my life through my fairies; like Mary and her wonderful poems!

And then I moved deeper to a place where I know that this drawing practice I’ve created that helps me process the dark things I experience by drawing demons and their antidotes and the fairy drawings that celebrates the paths that lead me to more light and positivity, has changed my whole way of being in the world

The words "Fairy of Rejuventation" are in a bubble above a fairy with big curly hair and a lovely dress. Speech bubbles contain the words "Embrace Difference" "and that which buoys you."

So, thank you all for being a part of this ongoing journey.

I hope you can move forward in your days finding what supports you in being you as you step into areas of newness that allow you to shift into even greater possibilities.

Have fun!

With much love,

Emily and the Bluebird Fairies

Gentle Water Rabbit

Hello Friends of Bluebird Fairies,

We hope this greeting finds you well.

Our annual acknowledgement of the beginning of the Lunar New Year begins with this fairy:

Beneath the title of "Fairy of the Gentle and Peaceful Water Rabbit sits a brown rabbit in a blue background and 3 speech bubbles that say "Easy healing" "and beautiful love" and "Have Fun"

The We’Moon 2023 datebook says ‘Rabbit year can be a time of peace, calm and healing after the dynamic Tiger year…during Rabbit year, enjoy living an artistic life in the beauty you create and share with others."‘

Ah, I love it. I could feel the shift in me as I drew this rabbit and whenever, I feel a little stress, I look upon this image and I shift back to ease.

I hope you can feel it as well. Have fun!

Love, Emily and the Fairies

P.S. In Vietnam they celebrate the year of the cat which Kelly Kaeding of the Vermont Center for Acupuncture and Wellness writes about in a beautiful and inspiring blog. Here it is.

A Cat Fairy may still be coming and/or a reprise of my long awaited paper mache cats.

Connecting to Our Pink Universes

Hello Friends of Bluebird Fairies,

Happy New Year!

“The month of January is for getting over the holidays.'“ said my friend Julia many years ago when we were in our early twenties traveling with the Bread and Puppet Theater. I think about her statement every year when we get here and it makes me laugh.

Now, it’s less about the stress of the holidays, though the capitalistic hold on them can be stressful, but more as an awareness that here in the Northern Hemisphere, it’s winter. It’s an invitation to be quiet, rest more and feel more inward.

Last Summer, I was reunited with Julia and we worked on a dance piece with our longtime creative friend, Alexis Smith, created by Bread and Puppet’s Peter Schumann. In it, there’s a Pink Universe and when creating a ‘thank you’ card for Julia, I made this fairy:

On a white background is a circle containing the words "Fairy of the Pink Universe", under, a single line drawing of a fairy with outstretched arms and a pink dress with two speech bubbles on either side with the words "We" "are here" in them.

So, here we are, Julia, in January, and I have been thinking so much of this Pink Universe Fairy and what message she brings to us.

Last Friday, by the end of the day, I was feeling flat. My emotional landscape had been used up like a balloon losing air and was flapping about in the wind. I always want to feel bright about my future, but that vision, I just couldn't find.

Luckily, I took my sad self into a room, sat down with a pen and paper and with my non-dominant hand drawing technique, I connected with what was left of myself. And, through this, I got the message:

The pink universe lives in all of us, all of the time. It’s where we keep connected to our selves, so when we start to get flat by giving too much, we’re reminded to shift into lower stress activities that we know fill us back up.

So, I hope you connect into your personal Pink Universe as much as you can, and have a wonderful January.

All the best,

Love,

Emily and the Bluebird Fairies
